Sharing This Week: Your Dogs

The topic of “sharing” this week in Gunner’s kindergarten class was pets — either pets you have or pets you’d like to have. Since we couldn’t exactly take the dogs in to the school (for a multitude of reasons), we decided to take a photo of Gunner with the dogs for him to take in and show to the class. Here is the result:

Gunner, Festus, Hutch, Daisy

Yep, that’s the “best” one. This was the only one where all the dogs were in-frame, and Gunner was paying attention and smiling. Unfortunately, he just happened to be itching his leg awkwardly. *facepalm* But hopefully no one noticed.

The dogs are: Festus (yellow lab/pitbull mix), Hutch (chocolate lab, AKC name “Mr. Trouble Hutchins Pterodactyl”), and Daisy (smooth collie/terrier mix). There hasn’t been a photo of Hutch since he’s been fully grown… so here he is! What a lovely bunch of smelly mutts!

Etsy Finds: Clockmaker with strings

I haven’t posted an Etsy Finds in quite some time, and after looking through all the lovely treasuries by the people who have been including my items, I was very inspired to make another! I went and skulked around Etsy and managed to dredge up a fantastic assemblage that I am incredibly happy to present. I’ve never done well with titles, so I used the Wikipedia Special:Random feature and the Quotations Page Randomizer to get a random-yet-seemingly-deep-and-poetic title: Clockmaker with strings. Please visit the treasury’s page and give it some love and clicks!

And of course I found some wonderful items and shops to add to my favorites! So all-in-all a successful and enjoyable exercise (although I stayed up far too late) and I plan to put together another soon.

My Tutorials Featured on Instructables!

I finally decided to put my Beanbags with Removable Covers and Dancing Ribbon Rings tutorials on Instructables, and they have both been featured on the front page of the ‘Play’ category!!

Screenshot of featured tutorials

And what good company to be in: PVC pipe LEGO table, dragon skull(!), marshmallow gun (which every boy should have), and wooden soma cube (which Adel may just have to beg her father-in-law to make for her). I was also given a free 3 month pro membership! Sweeeeet. I may just have to put together some more tutorials and get the best of the pro perks.

Nine Inch Nails: Ghosts & Photographic Artwork

The art aesthetic of Nine Inch Nails has always been incredibly appealing to me; the fact that I also love the music is a total win-win situation. As I’ve grown through the years from a moody and brooding teenager into an urbane sophisticate of an adult (okay, lol at that), I’ve been lucky enough that NIN’s music has seemed to morph and evolve along with me. I haven’t “outgrown” it like so many other bands, but I’ve been able to go along on the ride and with each new album I just love it more and more–I hope it never ends!

I recently purchased Ghosts I-IV, which isn’t exactly “new” anymore (it came out back in 2008), but for some ridiculous reason I had skipped over it or forgotten about it until this year. But I am so glad I picked it up, even if I was a little late! I love the instrumentals of Nine Inch Nails, and a whole two-disc album’s worth?! Fantastic! Then I posted about it on Facebook, only to realize that I was not alone in my procrastination: two of my NIN-head friends who I thought would be chastising me for not listening sooner were asking me to get them copies! Naturally, I referred them to the website where you can download the whole album for five bucks. But anyway, on to my original impetus for this blog entry, which is the breathtaking artwork accompanying this album.

There have always been extremely talented artists working to create the visual “feel” for every Nine Inch Nails album. For Ghosts, it was photographers Phillip Graybill and Rob Sheridan, whose landscape and macro photography fit so well with the music. You can download a free 40-page PDF of the Ghosts photographic images, and here are some examples:
