Gunner Mix #2

I have managed again to fill 70 minutes with songs that are appropriate and fun for a six-year-old boy, and which also happen to be awesome! I made myself a copy of this mix to keep in my car, as a matter of fact. “Who Wants to Rock?” was a great way to start it off (love that song), and notice how “Iron Man” and “War Machine” are back to back? Yeah.

Gunner Mix 2

I’ve started compiling song ideas for mix number three, like the Chipmunks version of “Wooly Bully“, and “The Monster Mash” (fun!).

Any other suggestions?!

Gunner Mix

Every once in a while, Gunner is really interested in the music I’m listening to, so I figure maybe he’s outgrowing his SpongeBob soundtrack. I decided the make a special mix CD just for him, but it was a bit more difficult than I had originally thought–turns out I have a lot of music that is both inappropriate and uninteresting to a 5-year-old (go figure). But one day we were listening to some Sepultura in the car, and Ratamahatta came on and Gunner absolutely loved it! He loves singing his own “gibberish” songs, so a song in Portuguese was right up his alley. I added that song to his mix playlist, and along with the three Queen songs already on there it was a whopping 9 minutes. I finally decided to just go through everything I have and add whatever I thought might work, and then listen to the playlist all the way through to edit stuff out that would be boring for him (or had hidden swears that I had forgotten about).

The final CD turned out really awesome! I almost made a duplicate for myself, but then I figured I’d be hearing it ten times through every day and that would be enough. A couple highlights that he has really enjoyed are Peaches and Buttmachine (again, go figure).

Beneath the Surface 3/6/10

Things have been going well for my husband’s metal band, Beneath the Surface. They had their second gig at 1st Ave Live on March 6th, and I was able to snap some better photos and one of the house techs even shot some video and posted it on YouTube!

Beneath The Surface Belphegor 1st Ave Live Cedar Rapids

LOL, Brett is such a goon (the guitarist). Oh, my hubby is the bass player, btw. They are building quite a local following and more gigs are being lined up. I’m going to be building an official website for them, and we need to get some shirts and stickers printed up. They’re pounding away working on new material, and hopefully they can have an 8-track-or-so album ready to record by the mid-to-late summer. They rock and it’s awesome! WOO!

Infinite Repeat

After reading a blog entry over at Wise Craft about house music, I decided to make my own list of songs that I could listen to over and over again repeatedly. Which I have actually done with these songs on multiple occasions over the years. They’re just that good!

To keep the list “short,” and in the interest of “diversity,” I’ve only chosen one song per band/artist, which was really hard to do, as seen in the footnotes for few songs (so I cheated a teensy bit). These are listed alphabetically by artist, because that’s how they came out as I was sifting through Media Player; it seems to add a bit of organized randomness to the whole thing.

If you don’t feel like clicking each individual link to the songs, I’ve put them all on a playlist available on YouTube: Infinite Repeat (click “Play All Videos” to start the awesomeness). Otherwise you can just read through the entire list below, which turned out to be longer than I expected. I trimmed it down twice but I cannot get it in under thirty, so lengthy it remains…

AC/DC “Squealer” Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
Allman Brothers Band “Midnight Rider” The Devil’s Rejects Soundtrack
Black Sabbath “Planet Caravan” Paranoid
